Sydney Homeless Connect provides an annual winter event at Sydney Town Hall where our open-door policy allows people who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless to connect with service and care providers to help them move forward.
We focus on ACTIONS and OUTCOMES, not just awareness. We exist to improve the homeless situation and ultimately find permanent accommodation for those in need.
The definition of homelessness is not restricted to those sleeping rough on the streets. There are thousands of people, including families with children who sleep in their cars, couch surf or use the services of community shelters. And there are thousands more who are on the brink of living this way if they do not improve their financial or family situations soon. Sydney Homeless Connect aims to inform those who may find themselves in these situations that there is hope and help for them, and connects them with social and government services that they may not have known were available.
The annual Sydney Homeless Connect event does this and more. Each year since 2010, Sydney Town Hall has transformed into a welcoming environment for Sydney’s homeless. It’s a place where they can not only connect with services such as crisis care, financial and legal advice, employment information and housing assistance, but one where they receive dental and medical attention, a haircut, a massage and a hot meal. It’s a place where they can feel special, respected, and safe.
